Serie A Round 29

March 24-25, 2012

Milan 2 – 1 Roma
Ibrahimovic 53 pen, 83 – Osvaldo 44

Osvaldo redirected De Rossi’s shot into the net. Ibrahimovic converted a penalty awarded for De Rossi’s (unintentional) handball in the area. Seven minutes from time Ibra made sure Milan got all three points: he went for the long ball out of Milan’s half, did a sombrero on advancing Stekelenburg, then wrestled Kjaer off the descending ball and headed it into the empty net.

Ibrahimovic now has 22 league goals this season, in 23 games. It also looks increasingly likely that he’s going to win a league title for the ninth consequtive year (he did it for the last eight seasons with five different clubs in three different countries).

Palermo 1 – 1 Udinese
Miccoli 31 – Torje 84

Atalanta 2 – 0 Bologna
Gabbiadini 50, Tiribocchi 90

Cesena 2 – 2 Parma
Santana 47, Del Nero 53 – Floccari 40, Paletta 61

Chievo 1 – 1 Siena
Acerbi 9 – Destro 51

After a Chievo corner, Pegolo deflected the initial header into the crossbar, Acerbi was standing in the way of Thereau’s follow-up shot, Acerbi tried to avoid contact with the ball but failed, and the ball hit his chest and bounced into the net, funny goal. Early in the second half, Bradley in midfield decided to head the ball back to his keeper, only the ball found Destro standing in Chievo’s area, he rounded Sorrentino and rolled the ball into the net.

Genoa 2 – 2 Fiorentina
Belluschi 20, Palacio 89 – Montolivo 31, Natali 70

Genoa are now 8 matches without a win. TV showed Gasperini watching from the stands, hinting he might return to Genoa I guess?

Lazio 1 – 0 Cagliari
Diakite 88

Diakite headed in Ledesma’s free kick just two minutes from time to give Lazio all three points. Normally that would be Klose’s job but the German was not playing due to injury.

Napoli 2 – 2 Catania
Dzemaili 61, Cavani 67 – Spolli 74, Lanzafame 85

An entertaining open game. Most events happened in the second half. Cavani missed an absolute sitter before Dzemaili opened the scoring with a ferocious shot from distance into the top corner. Cavani found himself one-on-one with Carrizo thanks to a substitute Pandev’s through ball, the Uruguvayan’s shot hit the left post, a defender was first on the rebound but missed the ball which went back to Cavani whose shot hit the left post again but bounced into the net this time, 2-0. Pandev hit the post soon afterwards. Spolli headed in Llama’s corner on the other end. Finally with 5 minutes remaining on the clock, Lanzafame equalized from close range after Napoli failed to clear another Catania corner.

Catania are now six matches without defeat and have overtaken Inter in the standings to climb to the seventh(!) place. Good job, signor Montella!

Novara 0 – 0 Lecce

Juventus 2 – 0 Inter
Caceres 57, Del Piero 71

Caceres was left unmarked right in front of goal and headed in a corner, shocking defending by Inter. Del Piero scored his first league goal this season, Vidal providing the assist. Juve completely outplayed the opponents in the second half and wasted at least two more good chances.

Ranieri finally got fired on Monday, replaced by the coach of youth team. Inter needs to completely rebuild the squad. I wonder who’s going to manage them next season, let’s just hope Moratti won’t lure Spalletti away from Zenit.

Standings:
Milan 63
Juventus 59
Lazio 51
Udinese 48
Napoli 48
Roma 44
Catania 42
Inter 41
