Not particularly attractive football on a terrible pitch. Lots of struggle in midfield, lots of fouls, no shots on goal. The hosts opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game with a header from a corner. On the half hour mark Danny sent a long ball forward towards Shatov, the Terek defense made a mistake by allowing the ball to bounce, and Zenit’s man of the match Shatov spectacularly volleyed into the net.

About 15 minutes after the restart Hulk sent the ball into the crossbar from a free kick, and Rondon was on hand to put away the rebound.

The difficult win in Chechnya further increased Zenit’s chances for the title as another contender CSKA lost to Dynamo Moscow in this round.
