Miguel “Zero Composure” Danny wasted a 1-on-1 early on by shooting straight at the goalkeeper after Hulk put him through on goal with a clever flick. Nothing much else was happening in the first half, the hosts enjoyed more possession but did not threaten seriously.

3 minutes into the second half, Spartak midfielder Romulo headed in form a corner. It looked like Zenit was going to lose this one but in the last minute or regular time Criscito chipped the ball into the area towards Hulk, a defender attempted to push the massive Brazilian but lost his balance and went down himself, and Hulk volleyed into the net. The hosts completely fell apart after that and Zenit could have snatched all 3 points in the 4 minutes of injury time but it stayed 1-1. Another small step towards the title; Zenit is now enjoying a comfortable 6-point lead over Krasnodar who surprisingly overtook CSKA recently and occupy the second spot.
